A new way to paint
I've been meaning to paint this for a little while. I'm so used to colouring within lines and using almost no lines is really something to wrap my head around... heh. I think it was fairly succesful experiment. Its clear I still have to focus on proper proportion and measurement and all that, heh. It'll come with practice I guess.
In PS, 2.5 hours (probably would've been faster had I not chatted so much)

This is another avatar I made for my friend tonight. It was actually a lot of fun:) I'd love any comments and or advice. Maybe especially with the light reflection on her face.

More robotics
Some robots
In the top 3 on the left I had been encouraged to add more character and tried to give the robots more expression, I quickly gave that up though :P Clearly however, as an animator, one typically desires to express emotion with whatever one animates and a less sterile and inhuman design would be in order.
The blue one is the only one in this update in my own ink. A ball point pen so crude this one was the only one worth showing :P My friend Ed has the most amazing pens, the ink of which I almost drink. Heh I used one of his fine pens for most of these.
Oddly, this is the first page I drew and it's last. The robot in marker was something Bobby Chiu drew for me extrapolating from the 3 designs I had at the top of the page (the only ones at the time)

The paper bag princess
Daily Sketchgroup at Conceptart.org 1085
Today I did a daily sketch group exercise. The idea is to do something to a sentence long concept, in this case "Jet packers fly amidst mist shrouded art-deco building tops" in about an hour.
Here is what I came up with, it isn't portfolio worthy but I'm very happy to do some practice with a time limit like this. I only put in one rocket packer but no one cares I'm pretty sure.
Where are those robots I promised? They're around and I'll get them up "soon". I never expected to be so interested in drawing robots but I really like it. Its funny how these things can come out of the blue. I mean, I really didn't see it coming.

Robot Sketchings
My buddies from school and I have a little ritual, you see. Once more more a month we meetup downtown like some secret society. We draw a lot and drink, just like secret societies are wont to do. Its a lot of fun. Anyways this last time we met up with admirable Bobby Chiu, who is a great artist and all around friendly guy totally willing to spend some time and teach a thing or two, divulging little valauble nuggets of artistic wisdom like halloween candy that doesn't rot your teeth. Check out his website here by the way.
Amongst all the sketching I drew these robot things up. Its a lot of fun actually. I'll post them when I get more time and I figure out how to use thumbnails....

If everyone else does it....
Well, I've buckled into peer pressure and made myself a blog. Welcome!
I'd like to open by linking up something pretty profound I read recently on http://johnaugust.com
about the nature of proffesionalism and what seperates a proffessional from an amatuer. I reccomend it for a good read http://johnaugust.com/archives/2006/professional-writing-and-the-rise-of-the-amateur
I am pretty impressed by the whole blog and I find all of stuff he writes about also will surely apply to my own industry.
I'll post some art work as soon as I feel like it. I'll have to find out if blogger hosts images for you or if you need an external host, hopefully its the former.
